GOWANUS CANAL RUINS LIFES?

Can the Gowanus canal kill you? Yes it could! But slowly. In Smith Avenue, next to the old factories you could the Gowanus Canal. The Gowanus Canal has Millions of Bacterias, and its the worlds dirtiest place. And the worst thing is that in can can cause cancer. That's not it, it also has a horrible smell, put every nasty together, that will be exactly how the Gowanus Canal smells like. How did the Gowanus Canal got so disgusting… you may ask? There used to be factories near it, and focusing on one specifically is the ink factory, the ink factory dumped all his garbage and the unusable ink, people treated it like trash. And let me tell you that people actually found a dead dog and a dolphin, but that's not the worst thing they found, a guy also found a dead body and reported about it.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Gowanus canal smells like death people mixed with poop. The Gowanus also has lots and lots of pollution, what caused the pollution you may ask? It has people's poop! The people's poop came from the nearest sewage, the Canal also has ink from the ink factory next to it. The Gowanus Canal is most likely a rotten suwage. For example Peter said that “the bubbles we see in the Canal are from all the pollution that is under the water”. And Krystin said that “a group of people are trying to make the Gowanus Canal clean and make the surroundings for greenish”. EX: Trees, grass and flowers. This all happened by factories next to it in 1869. People use to swim on it back then because it was clean, now it’s just trash.

   SOCIAL SIGNIFICANCE

This problem is relevant to people's lives because people are the ones who caused it. This problem matters because if people don't do anything about it the bacteria could spread to the ocean. People are not impacted they just throw their garbage in the canal and are happy about it. Now i just got to say, let's clean the Gowanus canal to prevent any more damage, think of all the water we use and drink. If us people don't do anything about it all the water we use will soon become bacteria. If us people help each other clean the Gowanus Canal we can make history and be heroes. I know it sounds corny but you get the point. If the water travels into the ocean, then how are people impacted during the summer time? Imagine swimming and seeing a floating diaper!

                          CALL TO ACTION

A group of people are trying to clean the Gowanus Canal, their idea to clean the canal is to get those cat trucks to take all the pollution in the bottom. And covering all the suwage holes that are causing the pollution. all this money is going to come from the government from a super fund. But this is not enough to clean at least 80% I have some ideas to clean some percentage for the Canal. One of them is to do a commercial on tv explaining if we don't act fast to clean the Canal, the canal can contaminate all the water in the world starting with the ocean. When people that care about our environment see our commercial will donate some money, and before we know it we are going to have even money to donate to the homeless kids. According to a student in bcs named “Joseph Sosa”, said that an idea he has to help raise money to clean the Canal, is to interview people. In that way you can grab people's attention and help you. One more thing that may convince you to help us, the Gowanus Canal water has so oxygen in it, and all marine life dies in it. But for some reason bacteria lives survives. Now the question is... are you going to let this poor animals die?
