Gowanus Canal Abused Water!

Imagine the lifeless water that is the Gowanus canal. The toxic chemicals that have been in the canal for year. There are many ways that can help clean and bring back life to the canal the communities that it's around. Many companies are now pay for what they have done to the canal in the past. This is one of the biggest reasons that the canal is this polluted, sewage overflow. The Gowanus canal is located in Brooklyn, New York. In the canal you can see different colors.  

Cleanup Plan

Water pollution is exactly what the Gowanus is going through sewage overflow, sediment at the bottom of the canal. The Gowanus canal is so polluted by Big industries , sewage overflow. This wasn’t the original purpose for the canal it was original for exporting and importing goods.”In 1972 they made the Clean Water Act, which would stop.”(Clean Water act)  Company from dumping the waste into the canal, river,lake or in our case the Gowanus canal. “The federal government is about to release its final, $500 million cleanup plan for the Gowanus Canal, one of New York City’s two Superfund sites, a long-awaited moment in the effort to cleanse more than a century of environmental abuse(The New York Times).” To help clean feces, sediment,chemicals, sewage, and industrial dump in the Gowanus canal. You can find this garbage filled water in New York, Brooklyn.  

Is The Work Being Done?

The Gowanus canal can positively affect people like the artist, because they admire the Gowanus canal. But it could also affect the community negatively and the little nature that is surrounding the Gowanus canal. The canal is lacking wild life so the community and the canal feels died. The progress is has been moving very slow this has been a problem for about 25 years now. Most ideas still ideas on paper.

Is The Canal Getting Better?

The Gowanus canal is going to undergo clean up by “a giant claw grabbed at a tower of scrap metal, like a crane in an arcade game.”(The New York Times) There might be some people that might miss this abused water, that would be some artist that are around the Gowanus canal. That have painted murals of the Gowanus canal. There has diseases like “cholera, typhoid, typhus, gonorrhea”(A Brief History of Smile) to name a few that are in the, Gowanus canal might just be reaching the end. Wild life are coming back to the Gowanus canal like “herring, striped bass, crabs, jellyfish, and even a shark had made it’s way into the canal.”(A Brief History of Smile) The canal has getting better little by little.
